About Lesson

Posts in WordPress are entries listed in reverse chronological order on your site’s blog page. They’re what make up the blog aspect of your WordPress site. Posts are different from pages, which are static and not part of the chronological blog stream.

Creating a New Post

  1. Access the Posts Menu: Log in to your WordPress Dashboard and click on ‘Posts’ on the left-hand menu.

  2. Add New Post: Click on the ‘Add New’ button at the top of the page.

  3. Enter Title and Content:

    • Enter a title in the top box where it says ‘Enter title here’.
    • Use the main text box below to add the content of your post. The WordPress editor allows you to add text, images, links, and formatted content.
  4. Use the Block Editor:

    • WordPress uses a block editor (also known as Gutenberg) that allows you to add different elements as blocks (paragraphs, images, headings, etc.).
    • Click on the ‘+’ button to add a new block and select the type of content you want to add.

Editing a Post

  1. Access Existing Posts: Go to ‘Posts’ in your Dashboard and click on the post you want to edit.

  2. Make Your Changes:

    • The block editor makes it easy to change text, add or remove images, and reformat your post.
    • You can click on any block to edit it, or use the options in the toolbar to change its settings or layout.
  3. Using the Toolbar:

    • The toolbar at the top of the editor contains options like adding blocks, undo/redo changes, and access to block navigation.

Adding Images and Media

  • Adding Images: Click the ‘Add Block’ button, select the ‘Image’ block, and choose an image to upload.
  • Embedding Media: To embed videos or other media, use the ‘Embed’ block and paste the URL of the media you want to embed.

Setting Categories and Tags

  • Categories: Organize your posts into categories to help readers find related content.
  • Tags: Use tags to label your posts with specific keywords that describe the content.

Preview and Publish

  • Preview: Always preview your post to see how it looks on the front end before publishing.
  • Publish: Once satisfied, click the ‘Publish’ button. You can also schedule the post to be published later.
